Forensic News of the Week
This week the focus of the links is the 'CSI Effect'. The 'CSI Effect' is refers to a phenomenon in which the 'exaggerated portrayal' of forensic science on crime shows such as CSI, Dexter, or Law and Order influences the public perception of forensic science. It is claimed the general public, and more importantly jurors, have come to demand and expect more forensic evidence (quantity and quality) in criminal trials based on what they see on tv, in effect raising the burden of proof for prosecutors. Studies have both supported and refuted the premise that crime shows cause such an effect.
